Sharjah: A Bangladeshi domestic worker who paid a friend Dh20 to fill her raffle coupon won Dh100,000 and two Infiniti cars.
Liza, who has been working for an Arabic family in Sharjah for the past 14 years, asked her acquaintance Nasiruddin to buy the ticket and fill in her details because she can’t read and write in English.
Nasiruddin also added his contact number on the ticket as Liza does not own a personal phone. In return, she rewarded him with Dh20 as a token of appreciation.
Liza, who has been participating in the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) raffle for the last five years, found out she won the Infiniti Mega Raffle while watching a live telecast of the draw at Global Village.
“I was watching TV with the Arabic couple that I take care of. They treat me like their daughter and were overjoyed to see my name on the screen. I am very thankful to God for this win,” she said.
Liza takes care of an elderly Sharjah-based Arabic couple, who has been very generous to the Bangladeshi national.
“All the five years that I participated, I kept my faith strong and was confident that I will get lucky at least once. And finally, this year, my dream has come true. I am delighted,” added Liza.
Speaking about what she wants to do with the grand prize, she said, “I have a son who runs a small tea shop. I want to help him expand his business.”
