Dubai: Reports of an anonymous guest shelling out nearly Dh500,000 at the swanky Emirates Palace Hotel's L'Etoiles night club in Abu Dhabi is kicking up a fuss online.

The bill dated January 4 totals Dh478,056.88, according to hoteliermiddleeast.com, which has published a copy.

L'Etoiles is known to cater to those with a sophisticated palate.

When approached to confirm veracity of the bill, Ohn Kyaw, the purchasing representative from the food and beverage department of L'Etoiles run by Etoile Hospitality, told Gulf News: "Somebody came and spent this amount."

Further details

When contacted, the bar manager of the club, Sujith Pillai, however, refused to divulge further details including those of the guest's nationality, stating, "We do not disclose any kind of billing information. This amount though isn't unusual."

The L'Etoiles bill comes on the heels of the shocking tab of Dh387,988 racked up at the Cavalli Club, The Fairmont, Dubai, less than a fortnight ago. Like the response to the Cavalli bill, UAE residents on Twitter have reacted with surprise and shock to the L'Etoiles amount.

Just how outlandish the billed amount is is evident from the tweets.

"Another bill discovered at Etoiles, Emirates Palace. This bill summed up to 478000 (Numbers aren't clear). I really do hope that it's fake," tweeted Fatima Arafat (@FatimaArafat), who is studying finance at the American University in Dubai (AUD).

"Abu Dhabi peep gets in the expensive nightclub receipt game with $136,000 bill for night at Emirates Palace," tweeted Tom Gara (@tomgara), a Dubai-based Australian.

Natalie Robehmed (@natrobe), a student at Columbia University, tweeted, "Another obnoxious bill emerging from Abu Dhabi's Etoile nightclub on Jan 4."
