Sharjah: Children in Sharjah will be able to brush up on leadership skills at the second session of the 14th Sharjah Children Council (SCC), which commences on Thursday at Al Diwan Al Amiri in Sharjah.

Organised by the Sharjah Children Centres, the session will see an attendance of 69 children from Sharjah who are members of the SCC. Taking place from 5pm to 7.30pm, the meeting will focus on the best ways of placing young people into positions of influence.

“Sharjah Children Council stems from our desire to nurture children as leaders, forward-thinkers and innovators by placing them in decision making, consultative and creative seats. We believe in giving them this power as it will both imbue them with a sense that their opinions matter and help them to understand the important responsibilities of leadership,” said Reem Bin Karam, director of the Sharjah Children Centres.

The second session of the 14th SCC will host a line-up of luminaries, including Emirati writer and novelist Noora Al No’man, a specialist in children and adolescent literature and founder and CEO of The Manuscript 5229 publishing house.

Other speakers will include renowned Emirati media personality and presenter of the popular Droub TV programme Ali Al Saloom, who is also a consultant on tourism in the UAE and the founder of the AskAli.com online portal.

Representing the younger generation as a special guest at the session will be 12-year old Naaima Al Zarouni, an associate member of Sharjah Children Centre, who will address the children and adult members of the SCC.

Her talk will discuss the key attributes that young people need to develop to pursue innovation and knowledge in order to advance society.

Further discussions taking place during the session will focus on reading and will examine ways for children to enhance their literary skills. Analysing innovative ways to make engaging with books an enjoyable experience, the talks have been designed to complement the UAE’s declaration of 2016 as the ‘Year of Reading’.
