Dubai: The second edition of Books2Benefit-UAE second-hand book sale will be held on September 8 and 9 at Novotel Hotel in Al Barsha, Dubai.

Launched by Medulla Consulting Services DMCC in 2015 (Medulla), the two-day book fair is set to collect and sell over 20,000 books this year.

Most books will be priced at between Dh5 and Dh50, with some book prices lower or higher.

Majority of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Emirates Red Crescent Society.

Books2Benefit also aims to play a role in encouraging a regular reading habit among people of all age groups.

In 2015, the event collected 25,000 books and sold 18,000 books, with the amount raised for the event totalling Dh51,722.

Event organisers are currently working to collect books from individuals and businesses for the fair.

Collection points have been assigned for individuals wishing to donate books for the fair and interested people can donate their old books at several locations across Dubai, Sharjah and Al Ain. Details of the locations have been made available on the Books2Benefit-UAE website, www.books2benefit.me, and social media channels.

The collection of books is expected to continue till two weeks before the main event on September 8.

Ursula Manvatkar, founder of Medulla and the primary event organiser of Books2Benefit-UAE, said: “Ever since the immense success of the first event in 2015, we’ve been meaning to reorganise it for the second time. However, after a year-long hiatus, we are finally ready to relaunch the initiative.”

The charity sale will include books of virtually every genre, including fiction, self-help, children’s books, Arabic language books, Islamic texts, school textbooks, horror, thrillers, biographies, science and technology, and Guinness World Record books.
