Al Ain: The final day of the 10th Al Ain Aerobatics Show on Monday saw breathtaking stunts by some of the world’s top pilots and aerobatic teams.

The show was organised by Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) in partnership with Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC), Al Ain City Municipality and Abu Dhabi Police.

Pilots performed loops, aileron rolls and hammerhead displays. Dozens of aircraft, civil and military fighter jets, with solo and team formations from around the world took part to entertain the thousands of spectators.

The show coincided with the UAE’s 42nd National Day celebrations and the organisers said that it was designed to pay tribute to the rich Emirati culture and heritage.

Spectators also applauded Miss Demeanour — a popular attraction at international air expos worldwide. It was the final aerobatic show performance of Jonathon Whaley, the renowned pilot of the solo aerobatic jet — Miss Demeanour.

After 43 years of flying and 15 years of piloting Miss Demeanour, Flapjack, as Whaley is known in aviation circles, will hang up his wings post-Al Ain. Sultan Al Muhairi, General Coordinator for Al Ain Aerobatic Show, said Miss Demeanour had always enthralled visitors with its manoeuvres at the show.

Colour and fun

Clear sky and moderate winds offered good flying conditions for participants on the final day and spectators enjoyed an uninterrupted display of aerobatic manoeuvres. The Fazza Sky Team, a celebrated skydiving and aerobatics team, displayed an outstanding performance on all three days of the show.

The show also featured stilt walkers, jugglers, face painters, pilot bear and pit-lane walk-throughs, buskers, balloon and swing rides, meet-the-pilot signing sessions and hot air balloon rides, delivering a weekend experience that made it a perfect family getaway.

A spokesperson for the organisers said they were happy with the success of the air show that had added more colour and fun to National Day celebrations.

Meanwhile, National Day activities attracted thousands of visitors at Hili Fun City, getting them involved in a host of activities. The activities ended with a spectacular firework display.
