Abu Dhabi: A new splash park will be opened at Khalifa Park in Abu Dhabi on the first day of Eid Al Fitr, the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City announced Saturday.

A splash park is a water area for kids and adults to enjoy playing in to keep cool but has no standing water of any depth. This is said to eliminate the need for lifeguards, as there is practically no risk of drowning. Splash parks are also known as spray parks, spray grounds, splash pads, splash pools, and water playgrounds or water playgrounds.

The "Murjan" Splash Park at Khalifa Park will have a diversified entertainment environment with recreational facilities and educational tools in an exciting and unique platform, primarily targeting children and families, a statement issued by the municipality said.

Engineer Abdullah Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Infrastructure and Municipal Assets, described "Murjan" Splash park as one of the pioneering projects of the municipality.

"Murjan" depicts the keen attention of the Municipality to provide recreational avenues to the residents of the metropolitan area, Al Shamsi said.

"The Splash Park comprises of an adventure land fitted with water fixtures, convenient areas for play and fun, and comfortable sitting areas as well as outlets for selling foods and other products. Exciting underwater events highlighted by jellyfish multi-colour umbrellas and aquatic creatures as well as staggering theatrical lighting and sound system create an interactive entertainment environment for all family members," Al Shamsi explained.

The main feature of "Murjan" Splash Park is the children's play structure located in a shallow pool with four small waterslides, a giant tipping bucket, a crawl tunnel, water guns, a water umbrella, small tipping buckets, a water wheel, and water showers, he said.

"Murjan" also has a 257-meter lazy river that is 0.6 meters deep where you can relax in a tube and ride it around the twists and turns of the parks and contains four trampolines with harnesses for the guest to jump and flip on," the official said.

Guests will be able to pilot their own Dhow around obstacles, through tunnels and past other boats in the Radio Controlled Dhow Derby.
