Fridges, washers, cookers and coolers sent to villa in error that he did not order

Dubai: A resident said top-end home appliances were being delivered to him daily – but he never ordered any of them.

Adnan Farhat said he has so far received about four air conditioners, three fridges, two cooking stoves and two washing machines, all made by leading brands.

The 45-year-old Pakistani businessman said shippers insisted he take delivery as his name, address and contact details were on the delivery orders.

“They just showed up at the front door and refused to take it back as they didn’t understand what the problem is. I have kept the items safe in the garage area until this is all sorted out,” Farhat said.

A spokesperson for the company said: “There was a technical glitch at one of our new stores wherein few deliveries got affected. This was an isolated incident, which was identified by our engineers and has been fixed.”

Farhat said: “I’ve informed the police about this so that there are no misunderstandings. They took stock and pictures of the ‘inventory.’

“I don’t want any other delivery guys to reload the items without proper paperwork as I can’t personally ensure they will then go where they are supposed to go.”

He added that the unsolicited deliveries started after he bought new air conditioners for his villa in Al Warqa last week from a leading electronics chain.

“I kept getting calls: ‘Sir, your delivery – AC or fridge or washer – is on the way.’ I try to explain I didn’t order – or pay – for any of this. Soon enough, they show up at the front door.”

The deliveries – of different brands and by different suppliers – were apparently generated by the same electronics chain in error, Farhat said. One of the delivery orders names that chain as the “customer” but provides Farhat’s name and address for delivery.

“Maybe there was a glitch in the company system, I don’t know. It’s doesn’t seem plausible to me that their different suppliers all had me on their delivery list for no reason,” he added.

The items were sent over the course of about eight separate deliveries, added his brother Kamran, 47.

“When I tell people about my experience, they joke: ‘So, what’s the problem?’”

    I wonder what the actual customers who ordered these items are doing? Won't they call the company when they did not get the delivery. At that time can't the company sort out this issue?

    Honestly speaking the UAE supplier/retailer needs to go back to the stone age or as one of the forum readers have rightly stated " learn from the Mumbai Dabbawala's " who manage to deliver approximately 200,000 lunch boxes daily to the working class in Bombay (Mumbai), without any glitch and MINUS today's technology. Truly appreciate Farhat's noble gesture in actually storing the goods in his garage. The retailer should have the heart to donate these goods to charity to save face.

    Did you ever have in your mind that it is arranged by someone who wamts to bother or harm you? This is a common practice back home in Europe: send items to somebody you dont like, and the person will be very busy with arrangement and rejecting the orders and getting calls etc etc.

    This is great. I salute these Pakistani men for their honesty and straightforward way of handling this. Dubai is still a great place with such honest people around. We should all appreciate them.

    My opinion: the supplier should take advantage of the glitch for good publicity; commend the customer and tell him, Sir, for the inconvenience caused to you, you are entitled to keep the items if you wish!!

    First we should admire and recognize the honesty of the surprised recipient and his presence of mind of reporting the matter to the police. On the other hand it's really hilarious as I remember many times when I have ordered items like a Fridge, TV, washing machine & air conditioner and I had to keep calling the dealer to deliver it soon, whereas here, this gentleman gets the whole load without even asking for anything. Some people have all the luck.
