Sharjah: The Emirates Writers Union Friday mourned the death of the 22 Emirati soldiers who died while performing their duties in Operation Restoration of Hope.

The union said that Emirati writers are, just like people of the UAE, proud of the sacrifices of these martyrs who died while performing their duty for the nation and their brothers. The UAE people’s genuineness and sense of belonging drives them to exert all efforts to enable the nation in delivering its message, as well as achieving security for both the country and its brothers, and this is reflected in the sacrifice of the 22 Emiratis, it said.

The union expressed its pride in the leadership of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, flanked by the UAE Armed Forces and citizens, to lead the initiative in extending a helping hand to all those who need it.

“We call on all creative Emiratis and writers to perform their duty by immortalising UAE martyrs through poems, novels or paintings. The UAE has once again proved that it’s a leader in the field of charity and is a leading and prestigious model for a project of peace and civilisation. The UAE is reaffirming its keenness for ensuring the stability of the region, the sovereignty of values of peace and coexistence, as well as respecting international law and the will of peoples and their legitimate right for a dignified life. We urged the continuity of such an approach that is a part of the UAE’s message,” said the Union in its statement.

Habib Al Sayegh, Chairman of the union’s board, said that 22 Emirates are now a part of the UAE’s history in the most noble and sacred way. He added that these martyrs are an eternal symbol and role models to inspire and motivate our conscience.
