Dubai: Topping up Salik has just got easier as the Roads and Transport Authority added another medium of recharge through SMS.

The new topup system is already active and can be availed through both Etisalat and du mobiles at a cost of 30 fils per SMS.

“We are introducing this new topup system for greater convenience of our customers, which is part of RTA’s vision. We are trying to make things as simple for people as possible,” said Engineer Maitha Bin Udai, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency.

According to sources at the Intelligent Traffic Systems Department at the Traffic & Roads Agency, the system has been operational for the last couple of weeks as a trial and the response to the system has been exceptional.

The new system, which is much simpler, will do away with multiple steps required to top up Salik through other existing systems.

“We have noticed that the existing options for topping up Salik accounts, be it through telephone calls or Salik webpage, require several steps to go through. Therefore, we have capitalised on our efforts and expertise to provide another additional option in a bid to offer a handy service to customers and accordingly raise their satisfaction rating,” added Maitha.

The new SMS option involves sending a text message to a dedicated service number 5959 with following details and in a following order: Number of Salik Recharge Card, Salik Account Number, and Salik PIN.

The customers will be able to avail the service only when they buy a Salik Recharge card of different denominations, which are available in the market.

“This step is intended to offer a handy solution to customers under RTA strategy that seeks to offer best-in-class services to all clients. The policy pursued by the Intelligent Traffic Systems will not be confined to figuring out innovative solutions to relieve the burden of Salik users only, but also continuously seeks to introduce new developments that render the system handy and user-friendly,” explained Maitha.

The existing Salik recharge modes like the Interactive Voice Response system (IVR) by calling 80072545 (800SALIK) or visiting Salik portal will continue to be available for public. The information about the new option is available on Salik website (www, salik.ae) as well as on new Salik Recharge cards.

Almost all banks are also offering Salik recharge options through their call centres.
