Dubai: With just three days left until the end of the drive, donations for the Dress one million needy children campaign keep on coming — a testimony to the goodwill of the UAE community.

The campaign was launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai on July 11 with the aim of reaching one million needy children by July 28.

Earlier this week Shaikh Mohammad ordered the increase in the number of children benefiting from the campaign after it succeeded in exceeding the Dh40 million target needed to dress the one million children in just ten days

The campaign will end on Sunday (Ramadan 19) in order to coincide with the ninth death anniversary of the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Emirati humanitarian work day, an annual event in memory of Shaikh Zayed

Global marine terminals operator DP World is one of the most recent supporters as it has donated Dh2 million to campaign.

Sultan Ahmad Bin Sulaiman, Chairman of DP World, said they were proud to support the campaign initiated by Shaikh Mohammad which embodies the spirit of caring for the underprivileged, especially during Ramadan.

“That the campaign focuses on children, the most vulnerable in society, is particularly important,” he said.

Dubai Public Prosecution also announced that it will support the campaign by placing donations in it main headquarters. It will also promote the campaign through displaying posters in its headquarters and through its Facebook, Twitter and Instagram page.

Emirates Red Crescent’s Dubai branch, which is conducting the campaign, has already dressed 10,000 children in Bosnia, 100,000 in Yemen, 50,000 in Lebanon and 100,000 in Egypt.

The initiative has also provided clothes to children from 5,000 Syrian refugee families in Jordan and 100,000 children in Tanzania.

As for future plans Mohammad Abdullah Al Haj Zarouni, manager of Emirates Red Crescent’s Dubai branch, told Gulf News that the campaign will reach 46 countries that will include: Saudi Arabia, Germany, Senegal, Tanzania, South America and other African countries, the Philippines and India. He also revealed that the campaign will revisit Syrian refugees in Jordan and Lebanon.
