Siemens, a global powerhouse in electronics, on Wednesday marked the inauguration of the first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum-certified office building in Abu Dhabi’s Masdar City.
The building will save almost 50 per cent of energy consumption compared to conventional buildings of the same size. It will also employ up to 800 people in the future, and will show sustainable contribution to the region.
Speaking to Gulf News at the inaugural ceremony, Michael Suess, board member of Siemens AG and CEO of Siemens Energy Sector, talked about the significance of investing in the Middle East, which he described as a “key region.”
“Despite some political insecurities, it is an extremely promising region where we had a very good track record in the past and we want to keep that in the future. And not too [many] regions are comparable [or] strong as the Middle East today,” Suess said.
He noted that this stems for the abundance of resources and the availability of oil and gas, which are in high demand across the world.
