Dubai: An Emirati groom and bride on Saturday became the first couple to formalise their marriage contract ceremony using a new smart service that connects the futuristic Service 1 centre with a Dubai Courts official through video conference.

The ceremony was attended by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Both the groom, Omar Sultan Al Olma, and bride, Amal Ahmad Bin Shabeeb, are members of Shaikh Mohammad’s work team.

In a video posted on his official twitter handle @HHShkMohd, Shaikh Mohammad can be seen seated near the groom on a sofa as a robot draws near to begin proceedings – held through video link – with a court official.

As the legal formalities are completed, another robot delivers the marriage papers to be signed. Shaikh Mohammad then congratulates the couple and their families.

Also seen in the video are Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, chairman of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation; and Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Future.

Service 1 is located in Emirates Towers, and reflects the success of the UAE government in achieving its goal of ensuring the happiness of its people.

Saturday’s marriage agreement was completed in the presence of the couple’s families using the service package Mabrook Ma Dabrat (congratulations on your marriage), which employs a smart technology in connecting the centre with an official in Dubai Courts to complete the marriage ceremony according to the sharia and legal procedures.

Wishing the couple and the people happiness and well-being, Shaikh Mohammad said that the desire to establish a family by young people further strengthens the Emirati community’s cohesion and deepens its solid familial ties.
