The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that the timing of trucks movement during the holy month of Ramadan is adjusted with the aim of easing traffic congestion and streamlining traffic flow to match with the morning and evening work timing in the public and private sectors during Ramadan.

Engineer Adel Al Marzouqi, Director of Right of Way Services Dep't at Traffic and Roads Agency, said that modifying traffic movement timing during Ramadan, which started on the first day of Ramadan, continues through the end of the month and covers key roads in the emirate of Dubai.

“In particular it covers Al Maktoum Bridge and Al Garhoud Bridge in addition to Al Khail, Al Wasl, Al Mankhool, Emirates, Sheikh Zayed, Safouh, Jumeirah, Ras Al Khor, Dubai-Al Ain, and Al Awir Roads among other roads as highlighted in white in the illustrative map.

Traffic movement is prohibited from 7:30 am up to 9:30 am, and in the afternoon from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, while in the evening the ban runs from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm'' said Al Marzouqi.

The Decision of banning trucks movement periods specified certain downtown areas, arterial roads and key spots in Dubai (shown in purple) where trucks movement ban runs from 7:00 am up to 11:00 pm without any exception at noon time.

These include Sheikh Zayed Road from Jebel Ali Port to Za'abeel Tunnel, part of Sheikh Rashid Road from Za'abeel Tunnel to Al Garhoud Tunnel, and Al Ittihad Road in the sector from Al Garhoud Tunnel to Al Mamzar Bridge, in addition to all downtown roads.

Industrial Areas are not affected by such ban timing (coloured in green) and traffic can move in these places round the clock. Areas shaded in red are banned for traffic movement 24 hours a day; examples of these areas include Shindagha Tunnel, Al Maktoum Bridge and Business Bay Crossing.

“This procedure, which will remain valid throughout the month of Ramadan, stems from RTA vision of providing safe and smooth transport for all with the aim at easing congestion of roads which usually witness higher congestion levels during the month.

Heavy vehicle drivers are invited to comply with the new timings for their own safety and the safety of the community in the context of realizing the vision of the RTA to provide Safe and Smooth Transport for All'' remarked Al Marzouqi.
