Dubai: Schools will not have any extra holidays for Ramadan.

Last year, Ramadan was observed between July 20 and August 18. This year the Ramadan Crescent will be seen on July 9, with the first day of the fasting month on July 10, according to the Sharjah Planetarium at the Department of Culture and Information. It was also announced that August 9 will astronomically be the first day of Shawwal and the first day of Eid al Fitr.

Most schools XPRESS spoke to said they are awaiting a final confirmation on the exact closing and opening dates for the summer vacation.

A spokesperson for GEMS Education Group, which runs over two dozen schools in UAE, said: “GEMS Indian curriculum schools will tentatively close between June 27 and July 4 while international curriculum schools will tentatively close in the last two weeks of June. The schools will reopen between the last week of August and first week of September. The Taaleem Group, which has 10 schools under its umbrella, said tentatively most of its schools will shut for summer on June 27 and reopen on September 2. The Uptown School, however will be closed between June 25 and September 1.

The Innoventures Group said academic year 2012-2013 for Raffles International School and Raffles World Academy will end on June 20. Indian High School will close on June 28 and reopen on September 2.
