Since it was established in 2007, the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation (KBZF) has focused on health and education on both local and international levels.

The KBZF has continued its Ramadan Programme in Palestine by distributing 4,500 food parcels in refugee camps and associations all over the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem this year.

The programme has not only focused on distributing iftar meals and Eid clothes, but it has also covered other categories such as orphans, martyrs’ families, widows and people with chronic diseases. Mass iftar for orphans in the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank has been provided.

Fighting malnutrition

Additionally, as part of the Foundation’s annual Ramadan food assistance programme in Arab and Islamic countries this year, around 131,000 bags of flour have been distributed to underprivileged families in six areas in Pakistan to alleviate their suffering caused by shortages of food and a lack of health services.

KBZF also launched a food fortification project in Afghanistan in September 2012 to benefit around 15 million people, improve their nutrition and address severe malnutrition among children and pregnant women in the country.

“Food fortification is one of the largest social projects of KBZF. The target is to reach about 15 million people to provide children and women of productive age with healthy and nutrient-rich food,” Mohammad Haji Al Khoury, director general of KBZF, had earlier said

Medical assistance

In efforts to provide a better standard of living and a healthier lifestyle, KBZF completed two projects on Socotra early this year.

New medical equipment and intensive care units have been upgraded for the island’s residents, and seven water tanks were installed in various locations to ensure safe water for the local population.

Commemorating the Emirati Humanitarian Work Day, which is dedicated to the memory of the late Shaikh Zayed, KBZF has announced its full support in building the Shaikh Zayed Mosque in the city of Wuzhong in China.

The Shaikh Zayed Mosque will accommodate 1,000 worshippers in a prayer hall and separate facilities for men and women.

“The Foundation continues to harbour the sentiments of our great leader, Shaikh Zayed, whose legacy is a shining light and an inspiration to our work throughout the world, and drives our ambition to continue in his footsteps,”Al Khoury said.

“We consider the building of this mosque a dedication to his selflessness and benevolent nature, one that will always be immortal to us, and now to the people of China.”
