It's official. Tom Cruise and co-stars Jeremy Renner and Paula Patton will call Dubai home for three weeks starting next month as they film the fourth installment of the hugely successful Mission: Impossible series.

As revealed by tabloid! earlier, the Dubai Government Media Office on Tuesday confirmed that the film’s technical crew has been location scouting for the past two months.

“Preparations for filming in Dubai have been agreed with the production company Paramount,” said the Media Office in a statement, adding that the schedule is one of the longest yet in the city for a major international film production.

The Hollywood stars will be among 400 crew members, it said.

Local government departments, including Dubai Police, Civil Defence, Roads and Transport Authority and Department of Health will also be involved to streamline the filming process.

Mission: Impossible is a spy-themed Hollywood action thriller inspired by a television series of the same name. First released in 1996, two more instalments have been released - one in 2000, the other in 2006 – each movie helmed by different directors: Brian De Palma, John Woo and J.J. Abrams. The three films together have amassed more than $1.4 billion at the global box office.

Brad Bird, known for his animated films “The Incredibles” and “Ratatouille”, will direct the latest film, simply titled ‘Mission: Impossible IV’.

Earlier this year, producers of Sex and the City, another television series-turned movie franchise, revealed they were not allowed to film in the UAE. Sex and the City 2, the second instalment, which was eventually filmed in Morocco, has grossed more than $290,060,747 at the global box office.
