An ex-wife has spoken out in the case of her husband and his female lover who were jailed in Dubai for having an extramarital affair.

Helen Hawkins, 35, in an interview with a British tabloid, said that her husband flew to Dubai to meet his mistress despite strict laws in Dubai that forbid adultery under Islam.

“Perhaps I am being too kind, but a part of me hopes Mark and Sally do now stay together,'' she told the Mail. “You don't go through something like this for a fling. When I found out he had been jailed I was furious and humiliated, but I still worried about him. But now he is out of prison and still has his job. He's got the woman he wanted and, as if that's not enough, she seems to be moving into my house.''

Her husband Mark Hawkins, 43, had no comment when reached by The Mail.

He and his mistress Sally Antia, 44, pleaded guilty in May in Dubai courts and were sentenced to two months in jail at Al Aweer prison after they were arrested at a Dubai hotel May 2.

The courts counted the four weeks the couple already served awaiting trial and the couple was expected to serve the remaining four weeks.

The court ordered them deported.
