Abu Dhabi: With over 5,000 book titles, residents and visitors in the capital can enjoy the largest floating book fair, which is currently taking place aboard the Logos Hope ship docked at the Mina area.

From Charles Dickens’ novels, and other classics, to biographies, children’s books, books on health, cooking, parenting, and even best sellers; the fair caters to all tastes and ages.

Additionally, the fair offers DVD’s and music CD’s all at discounted prices.

One of the visitors, Kmar Cherif, an Abu Dhabi resident working at a special needs school, said the fair presented pupils across the UAE with easy and cheap access to books.

“The fair is very nice and there are many books here with great prices. I came to take books for my school, and I remember when my children heard about this, they were very excited,” Cherif told Gulf News.

Another resident in the capital, Wafa Hussain welcomed the idea of a floating book fair, saying that it will drive more children to visit.

“I’m definitely going to take my children to the fair, and I like that the venue is a ship because it is kind of unusual so I think kids will like that,” the mother-of-two said.

When Logos Hope stopped by Abu Dhabi in 2011, it welcomed 42,000 visitors, and this year the ship hopes to host even more.

Captain of the ship, Tom Dyer said he was excited to dock the ship in Abu Dhabi again as it provides easy access for re-fueling, as well as good air connection.

With over 50 different nationalities working on board, the ship will host other activities such as national dances, songs, and live performances.

The fair runs until November 24 and is open to the public from 2pm–10pm everyday with free entrance. Out of respect to the UAE’s cultural sensitivities, the ship is also hosting ladies-only hours, which are every Wednesday from 9am to 12pm.

Logos Hope is then set to stop in Ras Al Khaimah. Its latest stops include Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, as well as various countries across South East Asia.
