Dubai: Pesticides need to be applied by properly trained licensed professionals and incorrect application could pose numerous hazards, according to pest control experts.

Improper application of pesticides has been an issue of concern and those in the industry said that this could pose severe dangers to the extent of being lethal. Improper usage has been attributed, along with a lack of awareness, to the availability of illegal pesticides.

The Ministry of Environment also recently issued a warning against using unlicensed or unregistered pesticides.

Earlier this year, the ministry stated that it is mandatory for individuals who deal in such products to make sure they carry ministry-issued stickers, showing their registration number on the label along with other information about the pests targeted by the product.

The ministry’s label also highlights information regarding the method of use of each product and whether they are meant for domestic or garden use.

A five-year licence is usually given to approved products.

Dubai Municipality has a list of more than 100 pest control companies and the civic body rates them.
