A taxi driver's honesty saw a happy woman reunited with her handbag containing Dh9,000 and some gold jewellery yesterday.
It was the second time that Cars Taxis driver Abdul Ella Benzouine had proved his honesty by handing in valuable finds.
Passenger Latifa said: "I had quite a lot of money in my handbag and had gone shopping at Al Mulla Plaza. I called the taxi's lost and found section who told me that my bag had been safely deposited with them by the taxi driver.
"I was so relieved, as honesty is very hard to find these days," she said.
The incident took place yesterday afternoon after Abdul dropped Latifa at her home in Sharjah.
He said: "The lady hired my taxi from the Al Mulla shopping mall. I had no idea that she had left her handbag behind as it was lying on the floor behind me.
"I spotted it when I was on my way back from Sharjah to pick another customer up. I immediately got in touch with our lost and found section just to find out whether they had received any inquiries about a handbag.
"Fortunately the lady did call us. All I did was deposit it with the office."
Abdul said that he feels a great sense of satisfaction when people come up and congratulate him for his honesty.
"We are all here to eke out a living through hard work. If I try to keep the money I am sure that God in some way or the other will make me pay double the amount I try to rob," he said.
