Dubai: Dubai Police is offering free legal advice in English through an online service.

Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Rahman Al Shair, Director of Legal Affairs at the Dubai Police, told XPRESS: “We are here to help. People should utilise this facility for the right advice. We address issues ranging from simple enquiries to complex cases.”

He said: “The process of submitting a query is simple and we respond within five days. The legal advice we offer is free, quick and efficient.”

Explaining the process, Major Dr Faisal Ahmad Saleh Al Bashr, Head of Contracts and Conventions in the Legal Affairs Department, said a resident needs to log on to the Dubai Police website (www.dubaipolice.gov.ae), go to ‘online service’, click on ‘individual sector’ and choose ‘consultation services’.

“You register and shoot your question,” said Dr Al Bashr.

“Legal issues are complicated and it is important that residents approach the right people in order to get the right advice. This is where our service is useful,” said Dr Al Bashr.

Consultations handled by the team are increasing. “It went up from 20 in 2011 to 93 in 2012. With the service now available in English, more people can avail it.”

He said consultations are classified under criminal cases, administrative issues, traffic law and miscellaneous enquiries.

Examples include inquiries on how to get a conduct certificate, how to deal with forgeries, property and car disputes, loss of money, thefts, threats and more.
