Dubai: Dubai police have called on families planning to go the beach or the desert during Eid to take precautionary action in order to ensure their safety and avoid turning the joyful holiday into a tragedy.

Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Deputy Dubai Police Chief ensured that UAE nationals’ safety would be a priority as Dubai police plans on intensifying their patrols in internal and external roads and shopping areas during the Eid holiday.

Al Mazeina advised UAE residents and visitors planning to visit the beach to swim to take extra care and not go into the deep water in order to avoid any sudden change in current that might be of great danger to swimmers.

As for those planning to go on desert trips or yacht cruises, they are advised to contact official weather forecast sources and inform the police’s command and control room by dialling the free number 999 or 046095555.

The Major General also advised Dubai residences planning to travel during Eid to sign up for the special service provided by Dubai police which aims to ensure home safety.

Those interested in taking advantage of the free service can do so by registering their name, number and location at www.dubaipolice.gov.ae or by calling 800243.

Gulf News spoke to some of the Muslim families living in the UAE to learn about the precautionary measures that they take to ensure the safety of their family during Eid.

“I am travelling for Eid tomorrow to Jordan, I asked my mother-in-law to take care of the house and water the plants which in my opinion is enough to ensure the safety of my home,” said mother of three Mai Al Khatib, a Sharjah resident.

Police advised parents to take special care during the Eid holiday by warning their children against accepting gifts and candy from strangers which is something Abu Dhabi resident Hasan Ezzat is aware of.

“My children are not allowed to accept Eid money unless it is from close family; it is something that I take seriously. I even ask them to return the money because it is important for me that they learn not to be so friendly with strangers, especially during Eid when we go to other peoples houses,” said Ezzat.

Police also advised parents to make sure that their children do not cycle their bikes on main roads and to avoid playing with fireworks.
