India's Ali Mohul Din emerged champion of the Ramadan Open chess tournament after applying the Swiss Tiebreaking system at the end of nine rounds of the tournament held at Le Meridien Hotel, organised by the Abu Dhabi Chess and Culture Club and sponsored by Cleanco Company.
Mohul Din started his last round match against Briton John Bennett in the second place, with 6.5 points, behind joint-leaders Salim Gholom from the UAE and Syria's Ahmed Hammad, each with seven points.
Mohul Din beat Bennett while Gholom and Hammad ended their encounter in a tie and with all three players collecting 7.5 points from nine matches, Mohul Din won the tie-breaker.
Gholom became second and Hammad third followed by his countryman, Hani Al Sharef, fourth with seven points after beating India's Abdul Hakim Sameer, while Abu Baker Ali, from India, also with seven points was fifth after defeating Mohammed Zain Belfagih, Palestinian Mustafa Kabbouli was sixth, Bennett came seventh, Egypt's Ahmed Faraj finished eighth followed by Pakistan's Faroog Rana ninth and Palestinian Hossam Kabbouli 10th.
