Bali Brahmbhatt, one of Bollywood's top pop and remix stars, will take to the stage tonight at the 'Baisakhi 2004' celebrations organised by India Club.

"This event will be the biggest show for me, and having a full live band will make all the difference to the performance," he promised yesterday.

The event starts at 9.30pm at the club's open-air auditorium. Co-singers Saira Banoo and Swaroop Anand will accompany Bali.

Baisakhi is the harvest festival celebrated in the North Indian state of Punjab. It is a time when Punjabis trace their identity to a land of gaiety and merriment, when bumper crops bring happiness and prosperity to the land and its people.

Bali Brahmbhatt was born and brought up in Nairobi, Kenya, before migrating to England. He was instrumental in bringing rap to India, and his introduction to Bollywood started with his first rap song Lena Hai, Lena Hai featured in Hindi film Bomb Blast.

Then followed a string of hits including Amma Dekh, Aamchi Mumbai, Aaja Gori Bangad Ki, Mere Saanvre Sanvaria and Pump Up the Bhangra.

He also created his own remixes: Gabbar Mix, Hathoda Mix, and Kook.Kook.Kooky.

The track 'Kem Che, Kem Che climbed the Bollywood charts, breaking all records.

The singer noted yesterday: "I have performed live in Dubai many times, but somehow I felt that I could not give my 100 per cent. This was because I was not able to bring over my band due to the cost. The India Club has solved this problem, and we are all set to give a really good time."

Brahmbhatt added he also plans to perform several numbers by other playback singers, with the repertoire today to extend from ghazals to non-stop Bhangra.
