Sharjah: The publishing industry in the Arab world is entering an extremely exciting time and should therefore proactively support authors, said Shaikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Founder and CEO of Kalimat Publishing Group.

Shaikha Bodour encouraged fellow publishers at the board meeting of the Arab Publishers’ Association (APA) to ensure the sustainable growth of the industry.

“Publishing in the Arab world is entering an extremely exciting renaissance with ever increasing numbers of innovative and forward-thinking Arab publishers stepping to the fore,” Shaikha Bodour said during the meeting on Thursday.

“It is therefore vitally important in this time of rapid progress and change that we as Arab publishers are proactively engaged in finding ways to encourage and support this flourishing industry. Meetings such as this one act as key platforms that allow for the exchange of experience and expertise as well as functioning as a conduit to facilitate the establishment of the productive and synergistic partnerships that are needed to ensure sustainable growth,” she added.

The meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the 2013 Algeria International Book Fair, aimed to discuss the current state of the publishing sector in the Arab region.

Asem Shalaby, APA President, Ahmad Fahad Al Hamdan, Vice-President, and Mohammad Ali Baydoun, secretary-general, were present at the meeting.

During the board meeting, Shaikha Bodour was chosen head of the Professional Development Committee.
