Dubai: One worker was injured and another trapped when a building under construction collapsed in Al Muhaisnah 1 area early on Tuesday.

Dubai Police told Gulf News that the command room received a call at around 8am reporting that a building had collapsed and some workers were trapped inside.

Police said the third floor and scaffolding collapsed in a building near the Arabian Centre on Al Khawaneej road.

Photos of the incident appeared to show an entire floor pancaked on the floor below it.

Lt Col Ahmad Atik Burqibah, deputy director of the Search and Rescue Department at Dubai Police, told Gulf News that one worker was injured and another still trapped under the rubble.

“The whole ceiling of the third floor collapsed on the second floor. It is a residential complex under construction and one worker is still missing and we are searching for him,” Lt Col Burqibah said.

He confirmed that a cement ceiling had collapsed in the morning and an investigation was under way to know the reason behind the incident.

“We contacted the company to bring the maps of the building to help us in the search and rescue as it a big place,” he said.

Sniffer dogs were used to identify the location of the trapped worker.

“We made a plan and divided the ceiling into small cubes, cut the cubes one by one and lifted each one to look for the missing person,” Lt Col Burqibah added.

Dubai Police and emergency crews including ambulances were at the site as police checked the roster of workers to make sure nobody else was trapped under the collapsed structure.
