WATCH: Fire breaks out on ship at Deira port

Dubai: A fire broke out in a dhow on Tuesday morning as it was heading towards the port of Deira.

On its official Twitter account, Dubai Police released two videos – a 30-second and an eight-second recording that was taken from one if its air wing rescue units.

Civil Defence officials confirmed that the incident occurred at 9.50am as the vessel, which was transporting cargo, was sailing opposite the Hyatt Regency in Deira.

“Teams from Al Ras, Hamriya, Port Saeed and Civil Defense’s Marine Fire and Rescue Department, were dispatched to control the fire,” said a civil defense official.

“The fire was put out at 10.17am. Thankfully, it did not spread to other boats. The dhow itself did not sink,” he said.

No injuries or deaths were reported.
