Sharjah: Two persons died while swimming off Sharjah beaches on Friday, prompting warnings for beachgoers to pay heed to sea conditions, officials said on Saturday.

Also, the maritime teams managed to rescue five people from drowning off Al Hamriya and Al Khan beaches in Sharjah.

The body of a 24-year-old Somali man was found by police divers on Saturday following a search-and-rescue operation overnight. The body was pulled from the deep sea and moved to a forensic laboratory.

The police said two separate drowning incidents had taken place — one on Al Khan beach and another on Al Hamriyah beach on Friday, the start of a long weekend.

In the first incident, Sharjah Police received a call at 6.20pm about five men drowning at Al Hamriyah beach.

Ambulance and rescue teams of Sharjah Police were sent and rescued the men who were rushed to the hospital in Ajman and Umm Al Quwain for treatment.

Police identified some of the men as Syrian nationals while others were Indians.

One of the men, a Syrian national said to be in his 40’s, later died in hospital. Four others were in stable condition, police said.

In the other incident, police received a call at 12.30pm on Friday that two men — an Egyptian and a Somali — drowned on Al Khan beach.

The police rescued the Egyptian, 24, who was rushed to Al Kuwaiti Hospital for treatment while the Somali man in his 20’s  was  missing.

On Saturday morning, police divers found the body in the deep sea and pulled him out.

The police said the incidents haoppened because people did not follow beach safety instructions.

It urged beachgoers to avoid going into the sea during unstable weather and be cautious while swimming, particularly during high tide and avoid prohibited areas.
