Ajman: Two people were instantly killed while five others are in critical condition after a Chevrolet Silverado pickup rammed into a McDonald’s restaurant at a petrol station in Ajman on Sunday night.
Ajman police confirmed that the driver had accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake, sending the vehicle crashing into the glass window of a McDonald’s at an Epco petrol station in Ajman. The driver suffered from an epileptic attack at the time of the incident, police said.
A man and a woman having dinner right beside the glass window were instantly killed, while two Indian families sitting beside them, including a child, suffered major injuries.
Colonel Abdullah Al Hamrani, Deputy Chief of Ajman Police issued a statement on Ajman News, an online news website, saying “The accident happened after a driver of a four-wheel car lost control of his vehicle, causing it to ram into a glass window at McDonald's where people were having dinner.”
Col Al Hamrani said ambulance cars, police and paramedics reached the site of the accident within five minutes.
The only material damage was of the glass window, he added.
He urged the public to refrain from circulating pictures of the accident showing the bodies, adding that it is a criminal offence if they do so.
