Muscat: A search operation is under way after two Emiratis are feared to have drowned after going missing in the sea on Thursday evening.

Another two Emiratis were rescued and they are in a stable condition, an official at the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA), told Gulf News.

PACDA used search and rescue boats as well as a Royal Air Force helicopter to rescue them, the official said.

The incident occurred when the four Emiratis went swimming despite repeated warnings by the authorities to avoid swimming in the extremely rough sea in the Dimr area of Mirbat in Dhofar governorate.

“Search operations have been ongoing for the last 20 hours to rescue another two people”, the official said.

The official said that the high waves may have dragged the two missing Emiratis further into the sea.

Four Emiratis drowned at Magseal beach in Salalah between 2012 and 2014.

Salalah, in the southern part of Oman, witnesses a huge number of visitors from inside and outside Oman, particularly from the UAE, to escape the heat, as Salalah has moderate temperatures during the summer, drizzle and lush green landscapes.
