Ajman: A vehicle recovery van and a truck burst into flames on Shaikh Zayed Road in Ajman on Wednesday afternoon — the driver of the vehicle recovery sustained burns.

The accident took place at 12pm, Colonel Ali Hamid Al Mesaibi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department at Ajman Police, said.

Col Al Mesaibi said the accident happened after the driver of the vehicle recovery van veered off his lane due to inattention, crashing into the truck and two other vehicles in the same lane.

Due to the collision, diesel leaking from the truck’s tank caused a fire to break out in the truck, which spread to the vehicle recovery van.

The driver of the recovery vehicle van sustained burns in different part of his body and has been taken to Khalifa Hospital for treatment.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control, said Col Al Mesaibi.

Col Al Mesaibi said the accident caused a traffic jam due to which police patrols were deployed on the road to regulate the traffic until the damaged vehicles were removed from the site.

He appealed to motorists to adhere to the speed limit and focus on driving to avoid road accidents.

Ajman Police launched an investigation into the incident.

Brigadier Shaikh Sultan Bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Ajman Police Chief, and Colonel Abdul Aziz Ali Al Shamsi, acting director of police operations, were at the scene of the incident.
