Fujairah/Sharjah: A 24-month-old Emirati girl is in critical condition in Fujairah General Hospital after falling from the balcony of a second-floor apartment on Monday evening, an official at Fujairah Police told Gulf News.

Fujairah Police said that the fall occurred at a building in Dibba Fujairah.

The girl, identified as H.S., was admitted to Fujairah Hospital.

Later, after her condition worsened, she was moved to Fujairah General Hospital’s intensive care unit where her condition was described as critical.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident and whether the toddler climbed onto a chair and fell over the balcony’s railing.

Officials warn that despite newly released safety recommendations about child falls, parental neglect can lead to more such tragedies. Some of the children who fell from buildings in separate incidents had been left alone at home by parents.

Civic and police officials are stepping up efforts to minimise the risks
