Ajman: A huge fire broke out in three warehouses in Ajman’s Industrial Area, sending huge plumes of smoke up in the sky over the emirate on Monday night.
The fire, which broke out at around 11.30pm, caused widespread damage to the warehouses, Brigadier Saleh Saeed Al Matroushi, director-general of Ajman Civil Defence, said.
Firefighters brought the fire under control and no injuries were reported, Brig Al Matroushi said
The warehouses, located in the emirate’s new industrial area, was used for the storage of metal used in construction work. A car parked next to one of the warehouses also went up in smoke, he said.
A rescue team evacuated nearby buildings to ensure workers’ safety, Brig Al Matroushi said.
Police blocked all roads leading to the warehouses, he added, which allowed firefighters and ambulance personnel to reach the area quicker, which helped in bringing the fire under control sooner, he added.
Brig Al Matroushi said: “Our brave firefighters fought the flames and managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjacent warehouse and factories.”
The cooling operation has started and the site will be handed over to forensic experts to determine the cause.
Brig Al Matroushi appealed to the owners of industrial facilities to properly maintain their firefighting systems.
