Abu Dhabi: Mock evacuations of three schools were conducted in Umm Al Quwain on Thursday, the Ministry of Interior said on Sunday.

During the exercise, the Operations Centre received reports of 10 injuries ranging from moderate to severe after an ‘earthquake’, and special teams from the Civil Defence and ambulance were dispatched at the scene.

Lt Col Hassan Ali Bin Sarm, head of UAQ Civil Defence, said that the training exercise bids to measure the Civil Defence’s readiness in handling emergencies as part of the ministry’s strategy.

The training was partially for students and school administrators to familiarise them with the necessary procedures to take during emergencies, including safe paths, until the Assembly Point is reached safely by all.

Bin Sarm highlighted that the outcomes, both negative and positive, of the training exercise will be reviewed and an evaluation of the experience shall be conducted to develop the capabilities of safety officials and remove any difficulties that may be faced during evacuation.

Other aims of the evaluation will include reducing response time, adding any technologies that may be helpful and handling emergency situations with minimum loss lives and property, Bin Sarm said.

Other participating entities in the evacuation included Emirates Red Crescent, the National Response and Coordination office in UAQ, the Department of Public Works, UAQ General Hospital, Shaikh Khalifa Public Hospital in UAQ, Emirates Transport and the Federal Electricity and Water Authority in Western Region B and the UAQ Educational District.
