Dubai: A tourist who lost her phone during a safari trip in Dubai was surprised when Dubai Police sent her phone back to her home country.

The Spanish tourist initially thought she lost her phone in Dubai but later discovered it was stolen and she informed Dubai Police by email.

Lieutenant-Colonel Mubarak Saeed Salem Bin Nawwas, director of Tourist Police, said the woman tourist went on a safari trip and forgot her bag inside the company’s car. She got her bag back but her phone was missing.

She thought she had lost the phone but when she went back to her home country and watched video clips on her personal camera, she realised that the phone was in fact stolen.

“Her camera was working inside her bag and she saw a hand sliding inside and stealing the phone. She emailed us about the robbery asking for help,” Lt-Col Dr Bin Nawwas said.

Dubai Police contacted the tour company and after investigation, the company’s driver was arrested for stealing the phone.

The driver was referred to the public prosecution.

“We recovered the phone and sent it to her home address in Spain with a gift and she was stunned and recorded a video to thank Dubai Police,” he added.

In the video, the woman is seen thanking the police for recovering her phone saying the device contained her pictures, memory card and data.

“I want to thank Dubai Police after the incident happened to me when I was in Dubai. Due to their effort, I recovered my phone. Thanks,” she said in the video.
