Dubai: Thick smoke was seen rising again from the Fountain Views tower near Dubai Mall on Monday evening, almost 24 hours after a major fire was controlled by Civil Defence.

Four workers were rescued from the fire that broke out in the under-construction tower near Burj Khalifa around 5.30am on Sunday.

The Address Residence Fountain Views – a three 60-storey tower complex was expected to be completed by April 2018.

On Monday, a Dubai Civil Defence spokesman said the fire was controlled but thick smoke is part of the cooling operation.

"There is furniture and construction materials stored in one of the floors and we still cooling it down. Thick smoke and sparks still happening. nothing major," the spokesperson said.

On Monday, several any civil defence vehicles were seen around the tower and police blocked some roads in Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard.

Major General Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, director of Dubai Civil Defence said that they have asked the construction company to store the construction material, including paint and wood properly.

"We send a memo to all property developers to make sure of following the safety measures in storing the materials in under construction buildings.  Faulty storage in Fountain Views tower was one of the reasons behind the fire," General Al Matroushi said.
