Dubai: Motorists in the UAE have been advised to take precautions while driving on the roads today, as the sandstorm continues to reduce visibility and cause road accidents.
The Dubai Police has reported that an accident occurred near the Al Houd roundabout on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, formerly Emirates Road (E311), this morning. No casualty has been reported.
The police is also unable to provide details on how many cars were involved.
The public is, however, advised to be extra careful because visibility has dropped considerably.
“We recommend using a headset or speaker in the mobile phone if you want to use it while driving,” the police said in its official Twitter account.
Another vehicle, a truck, also got stalled on Emirates Road before Meleha bridge towards Sharjah at 12:15pm.
No major road accidents have been reported so far in the northern emirates, although the police has beefed up patrols on the main roads.
The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has warned that visibility will be reduced to “less than 500 metres at times” as fresh strong winds blow dust across the UAE today.
“NCMS warns of the fresh to strong winds and rough to very rough sea, also poor visibility due to dust in suspension,” the weather bureau said in a public announcement released just a few hours ago.
Unstable weather has caused the country’s temperature to drop to its lowest at 15.7 degrees this morning in Jebel Jais, the UAE’s tallest mountain. (With reports from Aghaddir Ali, Staff Reporter)
