Dubai: Dubai Municipality has added 11 safety trucks to its waste management vehicle fleet to guard street cleaning trucks and ensure the safety of their drivers.

These safety trucks will operate behind the street cleaning vehicles that are fitted with automated brooms. The safety trucks have a collision protection cushion unit and are fitted with warning and signal lights customised to alert drivers coming from behind or those who work on the emirate’s roads.

These unique trucks contain many high-performance intelligent systems and technologies for early prediction and remote sensing. These guarantee proper positioning of the vehicle during operation and make sure that the truck does not move out of the track and comes to a full stop in the event of a collision with any vehicle. They also have a comprehensive electronic controller device inside to help the driver control all safety systems without having to leave the vehicle.

“We are always striving to develop our automated fleet to become environmentally friendly and safer,” Abdul Majid Al Saifaie, director of Waste Management Department, said in a press release on Wednesday.

“The new trucks are the first of their kind in the Middle East. They are meant to create a safe working environment and to achieve the highest rates of protection of road users and drivers of public hygiene vehicles. These trucks will work behind the automated fleet of waste management trucks to provide the necessary precautions and systems for protection from injuries due to collision.”
