Dubai: A policeman who was directing traffic under heavy rain was honoured by the Dubai Police chief for his dedication to his job, police said on Monday.

The policeman, Ramadan Hussain Abdullah, from the Traffic Department in Dubai Police, was organising traffic at a disrupted traffic signal in Jumeirah area despite the heavy rain and the public recorded him on video and the clip went viral on social media.

Ramadan Abdullah said that he was surprised when the Dubai Police chief called him on his phone while he was directing the traffic to praise his role.

“I was so happy when I received the call thanking me for doing my job. I was doing my duty,” Ramadan Abdullah said.

He was honoured with a certificate by Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief in the presence of other officers.

Maj. Gen. Al Merri praised the policeman’s dedication to his duty despite the difficult circumstances. “What he did was a positive thing and we honoured him for his work. Dubai Police is always looking to make society happy,” Maj. Gen. Al Merri added.
