Abu Dhabi: A 60-year-old Tunisian man stranded in Al Ain’s Al Nahal area has been rescued by the Abu Dhabi Police’s Air Wing, police announced in a statement on Saturday.

The department received a report from the Abu Dhabi Police command and control centre that a resident was stranded, and immediately sent out personnel for an aerial surveillance of the area in which the man had lost contact. The vehicle was found stranded in the north of the Nahal area, and the personnel who landed next to it in a helicopter found the man to be in good health.

After a preliminary health assessment, the police contacted the man’s family and transported him back to them.

According to the police, the resident had gone out to enjoy the desert on his own.

“The car got stuck in a sand dune, and although he contacted his family, he was unable to guide them to his location in the desert. At the same time, his family was concerned because his phone battery drained, and they then contacted the police,” said Brigadier-General Ebrahim Al Beloushi, director of Abu Dhabi Air Wing.

The official also urged residents who go out on trips to the desert and outside the main cities to keep emergency contact numbers at hand in order to ensure the quickest response in remote areas.
