Abu Dhabi: The National Ambulance saw increased demand for its services in the Northern Emirates during Ramadan and Eid this year, particularly in the hours leading up to iftar and after daily night prayers.

In a statement sent by the national emergency service provider, it said 6,329 calls were made to its communications centre during the holy month, and 4,266 of them required emergency resources to be deployed. Motor vehicle accidents before and after iftar were 33 per cent higher than at the same time during the rest of the year, and 41 per cent higher between 9pm and 12am.

Among incidents, motor vehicle accidents were the most common, with 1,094 recorded during Ramadan and 134 during Eid. Lack of consciousness due to diabetes mismanagement, sickness and abdominal pain were the other major concerns that required assistance.
