Sharjah: A massive fire raged landfill in Al Sajjah Industrial Area of Sharjah on Monday night.
Sharjah Civil Defence said no injuries were reported in the blaze that is believed to have started at around 7.40pm but the site which belong to Be'ah was completely destroyed.
The fire happened in a landfill in which flammable material were dumped.The site contained two barrels of diesel.
Sharjah Police sealed off roads leading to the factory and only emergency vehicles were allowed through. Workers in nearby premises were evacuated.
Brigadier Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Director-General of Sharjah Civil Defence, told Gulf News there were no reports of injuries.
Thick black smoke could be seen billowing from several kilometres away. Brig Al Suwaidi said that a fire engine was dispatched as soon as the blaze was reported.
Firefighters from Civil Defence headquarters and Muleiha, Samnan and Al Sajaa, Dubai and Ajman participated in the operation. Workers moved to safety continued to wait as teams from the Civil Defence and Sharjah Police launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
Brig Al Suwaidi said the site would be handed over to forensic laboratory experts to determine the cause of the blaze.
