Ras Al Khaimah: A 29-year-old Emirati man was electrocuted on Monday while drinking from an electric water cooler.

According to local media reports, the accident occurred while the victim was climbing on top of the mountain Jebel Jais.

Ras Al Khaimah Police identified the victim as Salem Al Hili Al Shehi, who was found unconscious on the ground.

In a statement, Lt. Col. Ebrahim Mattar, Chief of Maamura police station, said that the Central Operations Room had initially received a distressed call on Monday afternoon, notifying authorities about a man who fainted while trekking on a mountain.

“An ambulance was immediately dispatched to the area of Wadi Beh, and paramedics rushed the victim to hospital. But the man had already died at the scene of the accident.”

Lt. Col. Mattar explained that initial investigations show that the victim died of electrocution, and pointed out that Al Shehi was alone at the time of the incident.

“He got out of his vehicle to drink water from an electric water cooler, which was at the top of the mountain. But while he was drinking the water, the victim was electrocuted.”
