Abu Dhabi: A 28 year-old Pakistani construction worker has died on site at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, sources have confirmed.

Although thecircumstances surrounding Mushtaq Masih’s death are currently unknown, Pakistani Embassy officials told Gulf News that the victim suffered a head injury while working on the structure.

Set to be completed by the end of this year, Louvre Abu Dhabi developer, the Tourism and Development and Investment Company (TDIC), said in a statement: “TDIC regrets to confirm its first fatal incident on Louvre Abu Dhabi construction site back in June of this year. Since the unfortunate incident took place, the company’s main focus has been the worker’s family, especially during this tough time.”

Born in Sheikhupura city near Lahore, Pakistan, Mushtaq did not have family in the UAE and died on July 13, Mohammad Abdul Wahid Khan, press counsellor at the Consulate General of Pakistan in the UAE, told Gulf News.

The victim’s family has ‘probably’ been notified by authorities, Mohammad added.

“This is the first fatal incident on site and comes after more than 27 million hours logged to date with an average of 5,500 workers on site. The company is still working with its contractor and the relevant authorities to investigate how this unfortunate incident took place and to make sure that the necessary measures are taken accordingly,” TDIC added.

TDIC is constantly working to ensure that the highest standards of health and safety in the industry are implemented for all workers who are employed on the company’s various projects.
