Dubai: Investigators are looking into a skydiving accident in Dubai that claimed the life of one skydiver last week.

Skydive Dubai has confirmed the death of one man, later identified as a Saudi national, who plummeted to the ground after making a jump over Dubai on April 30.

The company said its investigators and the Dubai Police are already looking into the incident.

“We are saddened to confirm the passing of a member of the skydiving community,” Skydive Dubai Desert Campus said in its post on Facebook.

“Our safety investigators and the Dubai Police are currently investigating the incident, and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage. The extended family is being notified and we request that the privacy of the family be respected at this difficult time.”

When contacted by Gulf News, a spokesperson for Skydive Dubai declined to disclose further details of the case, saying that a press statement will be issued later.

The company is also tightlipped about the identity of the skydiver.

“I can’t confirm anything right now. That [FB statement] is all what we can share for now,” said the spokesperson.

Several media reports have identified the victim as Majed Al Shuaiby, a 35 year-old experienced diver from Riyadh.

Al Shuaiby was reportedly visiting Dubai with his two brothers when the accident occurred.
