Ras Al Khaimah: A two-month-old child and mother suffered serious injuries, while seven others suffered minor to moderate injuries as two cars collided in Ras Al Khaimah on Thursday morning.

The accident took place on Shuhada’a road. Traffic patrols, medics, rescue teams and an ambulance were dispatched to the site.

According to the RAK police, the Emirati mother, 30, was driving with her baby and six other people, including two African nannies, in her car when she tried to overtake a car in front on a two-way road. As she was overtaking, she saw a car coming from the opposite direction and tried to avoid it but failed and both cars collided head on, said Colonel Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi, Director-General of Central Operations, Ras Al Khaimah Police.

The European driver of the other car and occupants of the woman’s car suffered several injuries.

All injured were rushed to the hospital.

Col Al Humaidi appealed to the motorists to comply with road traffic and safety regulations. He also warned of the dangers of overtaking from the wrong side.
