Sharjah: An Indian father of three was found hanging from ceiling in his Sharjah apartment, almost a month after sending his family back home due to financial woes.

The 45-year-old has reportedly committed suicide, an official at the Sharjah Police told Gulf News

The police said he allegedly hanged himself with a rope from the ceiling in his apartment in Al Ghuwair in Rolla area.

His elder brother identified the deceased as Avarachan Jacob, who hailed from the south Indian state of Kerala.

He said the deceased, who worked as a GPS technician in Dubai, might have been upset as he had to send his family back home because he could not support their stay here.

“He has one son and two daughters. The nine-year-old son and five-year-old daughter were studying here. When they had a third child, it became difficult for him to meet all the expenses. His wife could not go for work by paying for babysitting the one-year-old daughter. So, he finally sent them back.”

Apparently, Avarachan was also concerned that he could not make both ends meet with his meagre salary even after working here for 12 years, said his brother Rejy Jacob, who works with a legal firm.

According to him it was Avarachan’s wife’s relative, who was staying with him after the family left, who found him hanging. “He went inside the bedroom to check Avarachan’s phone kept ringing and he was not answering.”

The Police operation room received a call at around 1.55pm reporting the incident.

Officials from the Criminal Investigation Department and forensic experts inspected the scene of the incident after Al Gharb police reported the incident on Monday, officials said.

Police launched an investigation over the incident while the body was moved to hospital in Sharjah and then was transferred to the forensic laboratory for an autopsy.

Condemning such acts, the police official urged people contemplating suicide to think rationally and overcome problems, rather than resort to such extreme steps.

Rejy said his brother’s family had been informed and paper works are in progress to repatriate the body.
