Sharjah: A 16-year-old girl suffered more than 20 fractures and other serious injuries after she fell from the fourth floor of a building in Al Buhaira corniche.

The girl, who was identified as an Arab, was immediately rushed to Al Kuwait Hospital for treatment, Sharjah Police told an Arabic newspaper.

Police, ambulance units and rescue teams rushed to the scene after police were alerted on the incident.

The girl sustained severe injuries in multiple parts of her body including her chest, pelvis, stomach, lungs, liver and spine as a result of the fall, medical staff from the hospital were quoted saying. She had also lost a lot of blood, they said.

They said her situation has improved but she still requires treatment for her injuries.

Sharjah police are investigating the incident to understand the circumstances that led to the fall of the girl from the fourth floor. A team from the Criminal Investigation Department moved to investigate the apartment where the girl had fallen from.

Police have not said anything on whether or not this was a suicide attempt and will have to continue their investigations before releasing a statement.
