Fujairah: A 22-year-old Emirati was killed on Friday evening following a driving stunt that went horribly wrong on Al Baidyah Road, following which the driver ran away, leaving his passenger fighting for his life on the road.

Fujairah police have launched a manhunt for the driver, a 23-year-old Emirati identified as S.K.M.

It was believed that the passenger had slipped from the four-wheel-drive vehicle and fell on the road when the vehicle flipped over as the driver performed dangerous road stunts.

After the passenger fell on the road, the driver ran away and witnesses reported the incident to police operation.

Lt Col Saeed Al Hassani, acting director of Media and Public Relation Department at Fujairah Police, told Gulf News that the central operations room received a call on Friday at around 5.20pm in which a man was reported to have been badly injured in a car accident.

Police patrols and paramedics rushed to the scene and found the passenger suffering from severe injuries.

The Emirati youth, identified A.R.A.A., was rushed to Khor Fakkan Hospital, where doctors tried to resuscitate him. The victim was later pronounced dead due to his injuries.

"The driver was driving very recklessly and  was speeding," Lt. Col. Al Hassani said

Information on the suspect and his vehicle was circulated to police departments across the country, Lt. Col. Al Hassani said.
