Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah: Four people died and 570 accidents were recorded in Ras Al Khaimah during the Eid Al Fitr holidays, while no major accident was reported in Sharjah.

The figures were released by police on Wednesday.

Police said the accidents were caused by speeding and sudden swerving by drivers.

Brigadier Dr Mohammad Saeed Al Humaidi, director-general of the Central Operations of Ras Al Khaimah Police, said the police received 3,008 calls, 570 of them reporting accidents resulting in four deaths from June 22 till June 27. Police also handled calls related to criminal reports and enquiries. Brig Al Humaidi urged the public to call 999 only in case of emergencies and not for seeking information.

Meanwhile, no major traffic accidents were reported in Sharjah during the Eid holidays, said Brigadier Ali Salem Al Khayal, director-general of Central Operations.

Sharjah Police received 12,716 calls during the Eid Al Fitr break, including emergency calls, criminal reports, traffic reports and non-emergency calls. As many as 10,099 calls were received on 999.

Brig Al Khayal said that the police had deployed 90 traffic patrols on the roads during the holidays.
